Garland, TX – Garland was ripe with excitement this past weekend as several community events brought residents together for fun, learning, and celebration. From sports to safety and even a showcase for our furry friends, the weekend had something for everyone.
The Buddy League kicked off its new season at Bradfield Park, where the Garland Parks Foundation (TGPF) proudly presented a donation check to support renovations of The Buddy League’s home baseball field. The atmosphere on the field was electric, with families and players gathering to celebrate the beginning of the season. Notably, the field features special carve-outs that make it accessible for players in wheelchairs, ensuring that everyone can participate and enjoy the game.

Over at the Fire Administration building’s training field, Safety Fest proved to be a resounding success. Families flocked to the event to practice their fire extinguisher skills, try on bunker gear, jump in fire-themed bounce houses, and explore community resources. With nearly 900 participants this year, Safety Fest offered proactive safety programming for all ages.

In the square, the Alumni Dog Show showcased adorable adopted shelter pets, giving them a day in the spotlight. The event featured a Halloween Pet Crawl where costumed pups trick-or-treated at local businesses, drawing smiles from onlookers and pet lovers alike.

As the sun set, the square transformed for the first fall movie night, inviting families to enjoy a cinematic experience under the stars. Simultaneously, Epiphany Gallery hosted the first-ever Civics Lounge, organized by the League of Women Voters of Dallas. The event featured discussions with local community leaders, including Garland City Councilmember Carissa Dutton, Garland ISD Trustee Daphne Stanley, and Dallas County Constable Deanna Hammond, geared toward fostering important conversations about civic engagement and community governance.

More exciting events are just around the corner! Next weekend, catch “Ghostbusters” in the square and join Conspiracy on the Square for an evening of exploration through downtown.
