About the Garland Gazette

How often do we hear or read neighbors upset that the mainstream media never covers anything positive in the community? We hear it or read it in the Garland groups online, and although some positive stories do catch larger media attention, the in-depth coverage of who is here and what is happening here in the greater Garland area has been missing. After The Garland Texan concluded running new articles, the community needed independent coverage. In an effort to drive community engagement in local government, the Garland Gazette was launched in the spring of 2025.

Founded by the Author of The Bootstrapper’s Playbook and communication professional AJ T. Cole, the Garland Gazette was created to highlight local community leaders, discuss local issues, and engage the wider area in examining what is happening within the Garland ISD footprint. The Garland Gazette is owned and operated by AJ, and maintains that the Gazette will remain free to access. To support free access to news, community journalists contribute, and advertisements are encouraged to help expand coverage.

The Gazette does not employ a full-time staff; AJ and contributing writers are in the community writing about real people and issues. To help improve efficiency, AI is used in the editing process. All data, information, sources, and stories are prepared by a human and drafted into a story by a human.
