Garland Cultural Arts Launches Volunteer Usher Program for Local Performances

Garland, TX – Residents who enjoy live performances now have a new way to get involved in Garland’s arts community.

The City of Garland Cultural Arts Department is launching a volunteer usher program to support events at the historic Plaza Theatre, the Granville Arts Center, and The Atrium. The initiative invites community members to help welcome audiences and assist staff during performances held throughout the year.

Volunteer ushers will greet guests, scan tickets, guide patrons to their seats, and help ensure visitors have a positive experience while attending shows in downtown Garland. The program is designed to build a community of volunteers who enjoy supporting the performing arts while helping events run smoothly.

Garland Cultural Arts hosts a wide variety of programming each year, including concerts, theatrical productions, touring shows, and community performances at its downtown venues.

To make it easier for residents to participate, Cultural Arts is partnering with Volunteer Garland, the City’s volunteer engagement platform, where residents can browse and register for opportunities online.

“Our goal is to make it easy for residents to be part of the life of the city,” said Josue Diaz, Volunteer Coordinator for the City of Garland. “Programs like this allow people to experience Garland’s arts community from a new perspective while supporting the performances that bring our venues to life.”

The first opportunities for volunteer ushers will support two upcoming shows.

Volunteers are needed at the Plaza Theatre for the musical performance Beatlegras, where ushers will assist with guest check-in, seating, and general audience support.

Additional volunteers are also needed at The Atrium at the Granville Arts Center for Omnium Circus, a theatrical circus production scheduled for multiple performances in March.

City staff hope the program will grow into a dedicated group of volunteers who enjoy supporting Garland’s performing arts venues while helping create memorable experiences for audiences.

Residents interested in volunteering can learn more and sign up at VolunteerGarland.org, where Cultural Arts events and other community volunteer opportunities are posted year-round.
