Garland, TX – Over the weekend, a group of women from across the country gathered in the cozy private room at Piefalootin for an afternoon of pie and discussions about the vibrant and enduring fashions of Zuri and high-quality brands. Local “Zurista” Vicki Stevens invited me to the gathering, where attendees traveled as far as Rhode Island to connect with one another over their shared love for Zuri’s unique designs and mission.
According to the Zuri website, the brand was launched with the aim of providing high-quality fashions while reducing waste, paying fair wages, and sourcing materials locally. Founded in Kenya, Zuri strives to support a sustainable economy while delivering stylish pieces that resonate with its loyal shoppers.

The attendees expressed their admiration for the brand’s colorful patterns and unique styles, sharing the various creative ways they’ve incorporated Zuri pieces into their wardrobes. Many women fondly recalled how the brand had uplifted them over the years. During the COVID pandemic, another beloved brand wool& initiated a challenge that encouraged participants to wear wool& attire for 100 days within a year to earn a $100 gift card. It was during this challenge that Stevens discovered new ways to wear repeat pieces. Stevens mentioned her own experience styling a black dress in multiple ways throughout the year to complete the challenge successfully. For her, Zuri represents more than just a fashion label; it embodies a lifestyle. She has built connections with women worldwide through their shared appreciation for the brand.
One attendee characterized Zuri pieces as a modern interpretation of Renaissance fashion, highlighting how layers can be added to enhance the overall look for different occasions. Another humorously remarked, “I didn’t think anybody else would understand if I said I dressed like Anne Boleyn—only I kept my head about it.” This playful spirit was evident as participants layered dresses over tunics and added capes, creating fresh styles from the original pieces.
After admiring the array of Zuri outfits on display, the friends took a trip to the Resistol Outlet to top off the fun. The day was not only about fashion but also about the community and camaraderie that fashion inspires.
