Dora Elia Alvarez was born on August 6, 1945, in La Villa de Guerrero, Coahuila, Mexico. She met her beloved husband, Jose Antonio Alvarez, while working for El Gráfico newspaper in Matamoros. They married on September 14, 1968, building a life rooted in faith, love, and devotion to family. In 1975, Dora and Antonio made Texas their home, where they raised their children. A devoted homemaker, Dora later served her community through 23 years in food service with La Feria and Rowlett Independent School Districts. She was also a talented self-taught seamstress, known for creating beautiful quinceañera, wedding, and prom dresses—including her daughter’s wedding gown. A faithful member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in La Feria, Dora generously shared her time and gifts, especially through church fundraisers. She was widely loved for her homemade tamales and hojarascas, which brought joy to many. In 2003, Dora moved to the Dallas area to be closer to her grandchildren. As “Noni” and “Abuelita Dora,” she cherished her role as a loving and devoted grandmother. In 2015, she proudly became a United States citizen.
