Groundbreaking Ceremony for New Garland Senior Activity Center Set for August 23

Garland, TX – The long-anticipated groundbreaking ceremony for the new Garland Senior Activity Center is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Saturday, August 23, at 601 W. Avenue B. The event marks a significant milestone in the city’s commitment to enhancing facilities for its older residents, following the recent approval of the construction bid by the Garland City Council.

The upgraded Senior Activity Center will offer a wide range of spaces specifically designed to cater to the needs of older adults. The new facility will feature various amenities, including a dining room, game room, kitchen, immersive classroom, multipurpose room, meeting room, group fitness room, arts and crafts room complete with a kiln, a Body Shops fitness room with a walking track, and a library equipped with computers. Below are renderings that the City of Garland provided as a preview of what to expect.

The new center will be built on the same site as its predecessor, but with a reimagined layout aimed at better serving the community’s older adults and their families. The new design reflects a modern approach to senior activity and engagement, focusing on wellness, creativity, learning, and social connection.

Residents are invited to attend the groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate this significant development and witness the commencement of a project that promises to enhance the quality of life for Garland’s senior population and future generations to come. This initiative represents a significant step forward in providing enriching opportunities and resources for the city’s aging population.
