Garland, Texas – Garland ISD is set to celebrate a major milestone in its 2023 Bond program with a community-wide groundbreaking ceremony on Friday, July 18, at 9 a.m. at Williams Stadium in Garland, Texas. District leaders will be joined by Board members, steering committee members, community stakeholders, and the architects and design teams who helped bring these projects to life. Together, they will mark the start of construction on five new Multipurpose Activity Centers (MACs) and two brand-new elementary campuses.
The MACs will serve Garland High School, Lakeview Centennial High School, Naaman Forest High School, North Garland High School, and South Garland High School. These versatile indoor facilities will provide students with year-round spaces for academics, fine arts, and athletics. Each enclosed center will include an 80-yard indoor turf field, safety enhancements, multipurpose netting, and dedicated band storage—large enough to host marching band practices and a wide range of student activities. The facilities will also provide a secure environment for students and staff during evacuations or other emergencies.
In addition, Freeman Elementary and Kimberlin Academy for Excellence will soon receive completely new campuses that will serve as beacons in their neighborhoods—modern, welcoming spaces designed to inspire learning, strengthen community connections, and support future generations of students.
This transformational work is made possible by Garland ISD voters, who approved the 2023 Bond after it was recommended by a steering committee of 80 community members and placed on the ballot by the Board of Trustees.
Friday’s ceremony is the first in a series of celebrations for the district’s seven high school MACs. Additional groundbreaking events are scheduled for:
- Rowlett High School MAC – Friday, July 25, at 9 a.m. at Rowlett High School
- Sachse High School MAC – Friday, July 25, at 1 p.m. at Sachse High School
