Garland, TX — Change has arrived for the Tri-City Cleanup. With longtime Dallas staff stepping away, Rowlett leaders retiring, and new leadership in Garland’s Volunteer Office, this year’s Lake Ray Hubbard cleanup is being reimagined with fresh energy and vision.
Behind the scenes, several Garland City Council members and city departments are working together to tackle litter and pollution. Strong support from the City of Garland ensures the event’s long-term future, with Volunteer Garland taking point through its new volunteer management platform, VolunteerGarland.org. Parks and Recreation staff continue to serve as the unsung heroes, staffing and supporting operations.

“This year is about more than one day of service,” said Josue Diaz, Volunteer Coordinator. “We want residents to leave the cleanup inspired and connected to ongoing opportunities that make Garland better every day.”
The 2025 event will feature a stronger system for removing litter from the lake, river, and streams, while schools and community groups step up in force. International Leadership of Texas Garland High School will host a site. The Preservation Society for Spring Creek will host two. Student groups from Richardson and North Garland High School, along with a theatre troupe, are joining the cause.
Caitlyn Godfrey, Outreach Specialist for Volunteer Garland, added, “The Tri-City Litter Cleanup is such a great way to bring our cities together and showcase true partnership, engagement, and care for our environment and waterways. It’s a joy to see people of all ages come out, break a sweat, and make our community a more beautiful and safer place. Volunteering can be tough work, but there’s no reason it can’t be fun too. By bringing in a little goofiness and positivity, we’re hoping to show that teamwork really does make the stream work.”
The City of Garland is helping push awareness through the Garland City Press, flyers in recreation centers and libraries, and a comical promotional video now available on YouTube: Watch here.
More than a cleanup, the Tri-City is uniting people in service, growing registrations on VolunteerGarland.org, and connecting residents with year-round ways to keep Garland beautiful.
