Garland, TX – A serious crash early this morning, August 13, 2025, resulted in one fatality and the arrest of a suspected intoxicated driver. According to a news release from the Garland Police Department, the incident occurred just after 2:30 a.m. at the intersection of Garland Avenue and Kingsley Road.

The investigation found that a black Cadillac SUV, driven by 18-year-old Alan Ernaldo Marmol Melendez, was traveling northbound on N. Garland Avenue at a high rate of speed when he struck a Nissan SUV that was crossing the intersection traveling eastbound on Kingsley. The driver of the Nissan, who was the only occupant of that vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene. It is currently unclear whether Marmol Melendez had the right of way at the intersection or if he ran a red light.
A passenger riding with Marmol Melendez in the Cadillac sustained minor injuries. The passenger was transported to a local hospital but has since been released. Following the crash, Marmol Melendez was suspected of intoxication and subsequently arrested. He is now facing charges of Intoxication Manslaughter and is currently held in the Garland Jail with no bond set.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing, and authorities have urged anyone with information about the incident to contact the Garland Police Department at (972) 485-4840.

As a result of the crash, the intersection of Garland Avenue and Kingsley Road was closed for an extended period while police conducted their investigation. All lanes have since reopened to traffic, but officials advised drivers to exercise caution and drive safely in the area.
