Garland, TX – C.A. Weaver Elementary School ECSE (early childhood special education) teacher Sheila McComas has been nominated for National Life Group’s 2025-26 LifeChanger of the Year award. National Life Group’s LifeChanger of the Year recognizes and rewards the very best K-12 educators and school district employees across the United States who are making a difference in the lives of students by exemplifying excellence, positive influence, and leadership.
McComas was nominated by her colleague, Kimberley Nixon, for her selfless efforts to support the school community.
McComas has been a special education teacher for over 44 years, showing dedication far beyond what is expected. For example, for the past 13 years, she has organized a special field trip for any special education teacher and their students who want to attend. This includes fundraising so families do not have to pay for the park, transportation, or lodging while they are there. In addition, McComas has secured donations for the special education students from within the community, including fencing for the playground to keep the students safer.
“McComas is dedicated to her school and students,” said Nixon. “She mentors new teachers and is constantly striving to learn new skills herself.”
